Miaoli Dong Fang Mei Ren, "Oriental Beauty from Miaoli," is one of the best-known Taiwanese oolongs. It is made in Miaoli County from young spring leaves that green leafhoppers have worked on. Their bites trigger special reactions in the leaf, which give the tea its unique honey and fruit aroma.
According to legend, a farmer left on business and left his garden unattended, and on returning found leafhoppers on the bushes. The leaves with damaged edges gave off such an enchanting smell that it was decided to make tea from them. This is how the cultivar appeared, of which Miaoli is proud today.

- Gongfu brewing (short infusions): 6–7 g per 100–120 ml gaiwan, water at 85–90 °C, first infusion 15–20 s, then add 5–10 s each time.
- Western-style brewing (teapot): 3 g per 200 ml, water at 85–90 °C, 3–4 min. Beware of water that is too hot: it can suppress the honey aroma.
