Song Zhen ("Pine Needles") is one of the most refined varieties of Chinese black tea from Yunnan Province. The name comes from the shape of the dry leaves: even, long, thin leaves resemble pine needles and are covered in delicate golden down.
This variety appeared in the 1930s and belongs to the Dian Hong family. The main difference between Song Zhen and other Dian Hong teas is its even, long, needle-like leaves. It is a spring harvest, so the buds are especially juicy and dense. Young shoots are used: one bud and one leaf.
